The Island is an unofficial neighborhood service. It is not operated by or affiliated with RIOC.

Information we collect and use

The Island collects the information you choose to provide, such as account and profile details, neighborhood settings, preferences, and content you submit. We use it only to operate, protect, and improve the service. Information you submit privately is not displayed publicly.

Public and imported content

Public community posts may be mirrored from clearly labeled sources and link back to the original. Your private account data is not published as part of those feeds.

Service providers

The Island uses hosting, database, sign-in, and privacy-focused traffic measurement providers to run the site. We do not sell personal information.

Reporting and blocking

There is no tolerance for abusive or objectionable content or behavior. Every post, listing, comment, and profile has a menu with Report and Block. Reports go privately to the people who run The Island and are reviewed within 24 hours; content that violates this is removed and the account may be removed with it. Blocking is instant and needs nobody’s approval — a blocked neighbor’s posts disappear from your feeds, yours from theirs, and neither of you can message the other. Undo it any time from your profile, under Blocked neighbors.

Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account and all of its content at any time from your profile page, under Delete account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
